If you’re an AT&T customer affected by recent data breaches, time is running out to submit your claim from a $177 million class-action settlement. With the final deadline set for December 18, only a few days remain to ensure you receive compensation for the sensitive information exposed during these incidents.
Deadline Approaching Fast
Earlier this year, a judge approved AT&T’s $177 million settlement designed to compensate millions of customers impacted by two extensive data breaches. Although the original deadline to file claims was November 18, it has been extended to December 18, with no further extensions expected.
Both current and former AT&T customers are urged to act quickly. Depending on individual circumstances, eligible claimants could receive up to $7,500 — but only if their claims are submitted before the cutoff date.
AT&T confirmed that approximately 7.6 million current customers and about 65.4 million former customers were affected. The breaches compromised highly sensitive details such as Social Security numbers and account passcodes.
Details of the Data Breaches
The second breach became public in July, roughly three months after AT&T discovered unauthorized data removal from a third-party cloud service. This breach exposed call and text records for nearly all AT&T customers from May through October 2022, as well as some from early 2023.
Importantly, AT&T emphasized that the content of messages and call audio were not compromised — only phone numbers and related metadata were leaked.
What to Expect From the Settlement Payout
While payouts vary based on documented losses, the total number of claims, and additional incurred costs, customers should temper expectations. Similar telecom data breach settlements, such as T-Mobile’s, saw most recipients receive modest amounts — often between $10 and $50, with only a few obtaining payouts in the thousands.
Why Filing Matters
Even a smaller payout holds value, as submitting a claim validates the breach’s impact and supports wider accountability. Filing also keeps you informed and can offer additional remedies related to the breach.
