Toyota vehicles will soon support Apple’s Car Keys feature. While the functionality is reportedly live on Apple’s backend, Toyota has not yet made an official announcement, leaving the exact availability date for Toyota owners uncertain.

Toyota already offers its own Digital Key feature through the Remote Connect package, allowing users to unlock and start their cars via smartphone. However, providing compatibility with Apple’s solution will offer added convenience for iPhone and Apple Watch users.

Toyota is adding support for Apple's digital car key feature

Apple’s Car Keys stores a digital version of your car key in the Apple Wallet app, enabling you to unlock your vehicle using your iPhone or Apple Watch. Users can enable Face ID for enhanced security or opt for an express mode to unlock the car more quickly without biometric verification.

Currently, Apple’s digital car key is supported by brands such as BMW, Genesis, Kia, Hyundai, Lotus, Mercedes, and Volvo. In June, Apple revealed plans to expand support to Audi, Acura, Porsche, GMC, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Rivian, Smart, Lucid, Tata, Hongqi, WEY, Chery, and Voyah. Toyota’s addition is a welcome and somewhat unexpected development.
