Finnish company Jolla has introduced a new smartphone after a long hiatus. Named the Jolla Phone, it is promoted as an "independent European Do It Together (DIT) Linux phone."
Jolla emphasizes that the Jolla Phone is a genuine Linux device, running "actual Linux" rather than a pseudo-Linux system. At its core, it operates on the privacy-focused Sailfish OS version 5, which Jolla bills as "the only European mobile operating system."
After a long silence on X, @JollaHQ is back. And we're bringing something Europe desperately needs. The Jolla Phone: Europe's independent smartphone running #SailfishOS 5. In 2013, when we founded Jolla from @nokia MeeGo’s ashes, people called us naive. "You can't compete with…" pic.twitter.com/A4YV2bQA6s

Jolla further assures users that Sailfish OS delivers "no tracking, no calling home, no hidden analytics." While the phone supports Android apps, users can fully de-Google their device if they choose.
Regarding hardware, the Jolla Phone is powered by a "high-performant" MediaTek SoC and is equipped with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD card.

The smartphone features a 6.36-inch Full HD AMOLED display with a pixel density of 390 ppi, protected by Gorilla Glass. Its rear camera system includes a 50MP primary sensor alongside a 13MP ultrawide lens. The resolution of the front-facing selfie camera has not been disclosed.
Powering the device is a 5,500mAh user-replaceable battery. The back cover is also replaceable, with Jolla offering three color options: Snow White, Kaamos Black, and The Orange.
Additional features include a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, NFC, 5G connectivity, dual-SIM support, and a physical privacy switch that disables the microphone, camera, Bluetooth, and more at the hardware level. Furthermore, the phone comes with a guaranteed minimum of five years of OS support.

Jolla notes that the technical specifications are subject to final confirmation upon full payment and manufacturing, with minor changes possible. This is because the Jolla Phone will only be produced if at least 2,000 units are pre-ordered by January 4, 2026. At the time of writing, over 1,200 pre-orders have already been placed.
Interested buyers can pre-order a Jolla Phone with a €99 down payment via the official source. The device is priced at €499 for early backers, with the normal retail price expected between €599 and €699. Pre-order customers will receive a special edition back cover as a thank-you gift.
Jolla promises to refund the pre-order payments if the 2,000-unit threshold is not met by January 4, 2026. Given the current pre-order numbers, production appears likely.

Deliveries of the Jolla Phone are expected by the end of the first half of 2026. Initially, the device will be available in the UK, Norway, Switzerland, and the EU. It will also function outside Europe, with broader availability planned depending on demand.
