Which Mass-Market Electric Vehicle Is the Fastest? Comprehensive 0-62 mph and Braking Test Results

Source: Date:

Electric vehicles offer efficiency, quiet operation, comfort, and advanced technology. However, their instant torque and impressive power delivery also provide a thrilling driving experience. A testing team in China conducted a comparative study to determine the fastest mass-market electric car by pitting the top 10 models against each other in a 0-62 mph acceleration test, followed by a rigorous braking evaluation to ensure safety and performance standards.

As the test took place in China, some of the participating models are less familiar to international audiences. The lineup included the Neo ET7, XPeng P7 (known locally as the P7i), Arcfox Alpha S, Tesla Model 3 Performance, Porsche Taycan Turbo, Audi RS e-tron GT, Tesla Model S Plaid, Zeekr 001 FR, Lotus Eletre R+, and the latest Zeekr 007. Before testing, all vehicles were charged to 80% battery capacity, and tire pressures were set according to manufacturer specifications.

The ambient temperature was around 32°F, consistent throughout the testing sessions, ensuring fair comparisons. Each vehicle was equipped with precision measuring devices to guarantee accurate timing and distance measurements.

Below is an overview of the participants, highlighting their power outputs and manufacturer-claimed 0-62 mph acceleration times:

VehiclePowerManufacturer 0-62 mph Time
Zeekr 001 FR930 kW2.02 s
Tesla Model S Plaid760 kW2.1 s
Zeekr 007468 kW2.84 s
Lotus Eletre R+675 kW2.95 s
Porsche Taycan Turbo500 kW3.2 s
Audi RS e-tron GT475 kW3.3 s
Tesla Model 3 Performance377 kW3.3 s
ArcFox Alpha S487 kW3.5 s
Nio ET7480 kW3.8 s
XPeng P7348 kW3.9 s

In the actual acceleration tests, the Zeekr 001 FR significantly outperformed the Tesla Model S Plaid, exceeding the margin suggested by their official numbers, although neither car matched their advertised times fully.

The Zeekr 007 finished third, just behind the Model S Plaid by two-tenths of a second, with the Lotus Eletre R+ closely trailing. The Audi RS e-tron GT was one of only two cars to meet its claimed acceleration time despite the cold conditions, outperforming the Porsche Taycan Turbo. This result created a notable gap between the Taycan and the Tesla Model 3 Performance, even though both promise similar acceleration.

The Nio ET7 was the other model to achieve its manufacturer-stated 0-62 mph time, securing eighth place ahead of the ArcFox Alpha S. On the road, the Nio expanded its official one-tenth-second lead over the tenth-place XPeng P7 to six-tenths of a second.
