China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has disclosed details about the new AUDI E7X following the German automaker’s application for a sales license. This confirms the vehicle's impressive size, powerful performance, and its potential availability beyond Asia, targeting markets in Europe and globally. The E7X is the second model from the all-electric AUDI brand, a joint venture between SAIC and Volkswagen.

The AUDI brand has dropped the iconic four-ring logo to establish a fresh identity within the rapidly evolving electric vehicle market, distinguishing it from Volkswagen’s existing lineup. Currently, the brand offers the sleek AUDI E5 Sportback, a wagon leveraging technology sourced from SAIC.

The 670-HP Chinese AUDI E7X surfaces, set to global debut

The AUDI E7X immediately stands out due to its substantial dimensions. Measuring 16.57 feet in length, 6.53 feet in width, and 5.61 feet in height, with a notably long 10.04-foot wheelbase, it promises a spacious and comfortable cabin for occupants. The all-wheel-drive model weighs 5,893 pounds, designed on a robust platform capable of supporting high power output and advanced technology. A prominent LiDAR sensor is mounted above the front windshield, underscoring the vehicle’s advanced driver-assistance capabilities. Customers may also choose between 21-inch or 22-inch optional wheels to enhance its commanding presence.

Two powertrain options are available: a rear-wheel-drive variant with a single electric motor generating 300 kW (approximately 402 horsepower), and a more powerful all-wheel-drive version featuring an additional 200 kW (268 horsepower) motor at the front. Combined, these motors deliver a system output of 500 kW, or 670 horsepower. Both motors are supplied by Huayu Automotive, a SAIC subsidiary. Despite its weight and size, the E7X boasts a top speed of 143 mph.

The battery pack will be provided by CATL, although its exact capacity remains undisclosed. Collaborating with a leading battery manufacturer such as CATL ensures the E7X will utilize cutting-edge cell technology. The involvement of Chinese partners like Huayu Automotive in motor production highlights the vehicle's deep connections with local manufacturing. Additionally, the integrated LiDAR system signals readiness for future advanced driver-assistance systems.

Significantly, the E7X is expected to enter international markets beyond China. The Volkswagen Group has filed for the E7X trademark with the European Union Intellectual Property Office as of December 2, signaling intentions to introduce the vehicle in Europe. Volkswagen aims to leverage China’s manufacturing capabilities as a global hub and has petitioned the European Commission to eliminate tariffs on China-made vehicles—a move currently under review.
