Apple previously used Intel chips in its laptops and desktops but shifted away after introducing its in-house designed M-series processors. Now, new reports suggest Apple is negotiating a fresh collaboration with Intel, though this partnership will differ significantly from the past.
Under the rumored agreement, Intel will handle manufacturing chips for Apple without participating in their design. This move aims to reduce Apple’s reliance on TSMC as its sole chip supplier by incorporating Intel’s fabrication capabilities.
GF Securities analyst Jeff Pu anticipates that by 2028, Intel will begin supplying a portion of the non-Pro iPhone A-series chips. Initially, Intel’s share is expected to be modest, with TSMC continuing as Apple’s primary chip manufacturer.
Additionally, renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently indicated that Intel could start producing Apple’s entry-level M-series chips for Macs and iPads as early as mid-2027. These chips would utilize Intel’s advanced 18A process, touted as the earliest sub-2nm manufacturing technology available in North America.
