YouTube Cracks Down on Premium Family Plan Users in Different Locations

Source: Date:

YouTube has recently started enforcing its rule that all members of a Premium Family plan must be in the same household as the family manager. Users found to be using the account from a different location are receiving notices that their membership will be paused in 14 days.

This move by YouTube mirrors similar actions taken by streaming services like Netflix and Disney+. While this policy is not new, YouTube has only now begun enforcing it, potentially to drive more revenue as affected users may need to purchase their own subscriptions.

It remains uncertain if YouTube will offer a compromise option for users to rejoin the Family plan by paying a reduced fee. As of now, affected users will either need to subscribe to YouTube Premium individually or forego the service altogether.
