Apple forced to remove App Store payment charges after court ruling

Source: Date:

Following a recent court ruling, Apple has been ordered to cease charging developers for payments made outside of the App Store. The tech giant's request for a stay on the ruling has been denied, meaning it must comply with the decision immediately. This comes after Apple was found to be in violation of an injunction from 2021 that prohibited anticompetitive pricing practices. While Apple has filed an appeal against the ruling, for now, it must halt its practice of imposing a 27% fee on apps using non-Apple payment methods and do away with 'scare screens' warning users against using third-party payment providers for iOS apps.

Tim Sweeney (@TimSweeneyEpic) announced on Twitter that Apple's stay request has been denied, signaling the end of the 'Apple tax' nightmare.

Companies like Spotify and Amazon have already begun adjusting their apps to accommodate the new ruling, allowing users to make purchases and subscriptions without facing additional charges imposed by Apple.
